Finding Rich Resources

Your Assignments

You have two library-related assignments for this course:

  • A "bibliographic refresher" of questions put together by Dr. Hanson.  This assignment will introduce you to some new resources for American music as well as show you how to use familiar sources in new ways.

  • An 8-10 page paper that examines the musical depiction of an American theme/genre, event, era, or personality based on the detailed analysis of two compositions -- one of art music and one from more popular idioms (musical theatre, jazz, folk muisc, sacred works, etc.).  The paper will incorporate library research and musical analysis.

Use the resources described in this guide to assist with your research for both assignments.
