Before you use that source, ask yourself...is it CRAAP?

The CRAAP Test evaluates the reliability of sources.

C -- Currency

  • How recent is this source?
  • Would a more recent source have better information?

R -- Relevance 

  • Does the source contain information that relates to your research question?
  • Is the information presented at an appropriate level for your needs?

A -- Authority

  • Is the creator qualified to write or present on this topic?
  • Does it come from a reliable publisher or host site?

A -- Accuracy

  • What evidence is provided to support the source's claims?
  • Has it been peer reviewed or fact checked?
  • Does the material seem biased in any way?

P -- Purpose

  • Why was the source created?
  • To inform you? To sell you something?
  • Do the creators make it easy to tell what their purpose is?
