Subject Searching
Book records in Catalyst are encoded with Subjects or Subject Headings. When you pull up a record, just scroll down to find the Subject field. You can click on these to perform searches in the catalog. Here are some examples:
- Lutheran Church -- Doctrines
- Presbyterian Church
- Catholic Church -- United States -- History
- Islamic civilization
- Judaism
- Buddhism
- Hinduism -- Relations -- Christianity
Browsing
Browsing is another good way to find resources. Simply go to the section of the 5th floor where books on your topic are located and look around the shelf to see what is there. Sometimes you will find things that you didn't uncover in Catalyst or you might find something more up to date that you didn't see in Catalyst.
Written by an adherent
Unfortunately there is no good way to search Catalyst to find a book about a religion that was written by one of its adherents. If you know of a famous writer who practices a particular religion, that might be one way to go. Otherwise, once you find a book on a religion, look to see if there is information about the author included. Often this is found on the back of the book or the inside flap at the back of the book. You could also use keywords such as testimony, diary, letters, reflections, etc.

Encounter across different religions
The best way to search Catalyst to find books that describe encounters between people of different traditions is to use some keywords in your search. First name the two traditions in the search terms and then add words such as:
- Relations
- Encounter
- Dialog or Dialogue
- Comparative studies
- Conversations
- Reconciliation
