How Are Art Books Organized?
N-NX -- Fine Arts
The St. Olaf and Carleton libraries use the Library of Congress (LC) Classification System to organize books. LC uses the prefix "N" to designate books relating to the Fine Arts. At St. Olaf the "N" section is located on the 4th level of Rolvaag Library. The "N" section is subdivided as follows:
N |
Visual Arts (General) |
NA | Architecture |
NB | Sculpture |
NC | Drawing, Design, Illustration |
ND | Painting |
NE | Print media |
NK | Decorative arts |
NX |
Arts in general (works dealing with more than one art form) |
Oversize Books: Many art books are published in large formats to permit large reproductions of the images. The Oversize Books are shelved on Level 3 1/2.
