Catalyst: books, journal and newspaper articles, sound recordings, scores, etc.
To identify books, scores, journal and newspaper articles, recordings, and other materials available at St. Olaf and Carleton, consult Catalyst (on the St. Olaf Libraries homepage). When you search the main search box, Catalyst acts like "Google" for the St. Olaf and Carleton libraries; it pulls results from the library catalogs, as well as online databases of articles, streaming audio, films, and more.
While Catalyst can be a good place to start your research, not all our online library resources will show up in your results, so be sure to check out the individual databases, too!
If you're just looking for physical materials like books, scores, or sound recordings, you can pre-select those materials with additional search tabs.
Materials at Carleton may be requested directly from Catalyst by logging in and then clicking on the "Request" link, and are delivered twice a day Monday through Friday.
Consult the Library of Congress Subject Headings for the best terminology for subject and keyword searches (the best approach for world dance topics; especially important headings include "Dance," "Folk dancing," etc.), and remember that you can narrow your search in lots of ways!
Note the call number and location of the item you want. Is the item at Carleton, Rølvaag, or the Music Library? Is it checked out or on the shelves?
