Community Care and Context for the Chauvin Trial
The purpose of this guide is to provide resources that will assist you in learning more about community care and healing. It also provides information on how to find materials that will assist you in contextualizing the Chauvin Trial as it progresses in Minneapolis. Please use the links below if you need to find support in these difficult times.
St. Olaf librarians have curated a collection of materials that you can access through Catalyst (see the first link below). We will update this guide and add more as we move forward.
Community Events for Wednesday, April 21
- Taylor CenterMorning Reflection: From 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m, the Taylor Center team will provide activities and a space for students, staff, and faculty to stop by and have conversations, engage in self care, and be in community.
- Taylor Center - Virtual ConnectionCommunity Building: From 6p.m. to 7 p.m., students are encouraged to stop by virtually to connect and process.
- Campus Ministry/ChapelA Service of Prayer. Chapel is a powerful time for our community to gather, reflect, and pray. Therefore, tomorrow Chapel time will start with time for prayer followed by an address by Pastor Matt about resilience. Prayer and Reflection Space: From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., students, faculty, and staff are invited to come to Boe Chapel to light a candle and have time for personal prayer or reflection.
Campus Ministry: The pastors will be available to connect with students, staff, and faculty throughout the day - Faculty Conversation SpaceFaculty session from 11a.m. to 12p.m. facilitated by Mary Titus and Mary Carlsen. Join us on Zoom
- Staff Conversation SpaceStaff session from 11a.m. to 12p.m. facilitated by María Pabón, Jessica Cameron, and Deanna Thompson. Join us on Zoom.
- CAAS and Wellness CenterStop by the Crossroads from 12p.m. to 2:00p.m. to pick up resources on radical healing, supplies for journaling, and other self-care materials. Staff from the Center for Advising and Academic Support (CAAS) and Wellness Center will be there to engage in conversation with students, staff, and faculty within our community.
- Residence LifeResidence life will have staff available in the lounges of residence halls for students who need someone to talk to.
- Piper CenterPiper Center coaches will be in the Piper Center from 10a.m. to 4p.m. to consider with you how healing and reflection can help you find meaning and direction in your current and future work and service.
- The Flatten Art Museum and Art and Art History DepartmentCreative expression can be a powerful form of healing. The Flaten Art Museum and the Art and Art History Department will provide materials for a collective wall drawing in the Center for Art and Dance starting at 11a.m. Drop in or stay all day to contribute to this space of reflection.
- UPRISING IV: Visions and ReflectionsArt Exhibit in CAD: Narrating Black Presence and Expression on the Hill
- Student ActivitiesInterested community members are welcomed and encouraged to reflect and express through chalk art and poetry on the plazas and sidewalks around campus. Chalk stations will be provided across campus in the morning and will be available throughout the day for community usage.
- The Paw ProgramJoin today (Wednesday (4/21) from 3p.m. to 5 p.m. for a special two-hour structured opportunity to sit with, pet, and interact with dogs without leaving campus. We will hold the Paw Program at the The Pause Mane Stage.
