PSCI 350 Slides
In-class Slideshow
Slide 1: PSCI 350: Library Research Session
Slide 2: Today we will…
- Walkthrough how to effectively use bibliographies and conduct cited reference searches
- Discuss best practices using Browzine, journal searches, and author searches
- Touch on Google’s Advanced Search
- Hear Ann’s favorite note taking tips
Slide 3: Bibliographies, Cited Reference Searching, and Related Articles
- Using one of your three favorite articles, use it to find:
- One article from the bibliography OR
- One article from a cited reference search (Google Scholar/Web of Science) OR
- One “related” article (Google Scholar/Web of Science)
- And add it to your Zotero Library
Slide 4: Browzine, Journal Searches, and Author Searches
Look for a journal in Browzine that one of your 3 favorite articles was published in and then browse the journal there. Alternatively, search for the journal title in Catalyst’s Journal Browse and then search in the journal itself. Try to find one more promising looking article, and add it to your Zotero Library.
OR
Using the author(s) from another of your Top 3 articles, identify if they have a website, university webpage, or Google Scholar profile. Find an article(s) that looks promising from its title/abstract to add to your Zotero Library.
Slide 5: To consider…
Think about the research strategies we discussed today. Which type of search strategy seems the most promising? Least promising? Which will you consider utilizing more in your future research?
