Keywords
Keywords are simply the words you already know or the words you think of when you sit down to a search box. When you open a database such as Business Source Premier, start your search with these words.
Subject Terms
Subject Terms are the controlled vocabulary that get assigned to every article record in a database. These terms are usually more precise and because they are systematically applied will guarantee that you are finding everything on a particular topic in a database. Here is an example from Business Source Premier for an article entitled "A Closer Shave":
